"Gentleman Robert (Caballero Robert) was the stage name of Joaquín Lavalle Bassó (1887-1965), my great grandfather. He was a varieté performer, magician, ventriloquist and transformista during the Mexican Revolution. He had a traveling theater he'd take across México, but would often perform at the Red Cross in front of patients, doctors and nurses.
Our show "Gentleman Robert" is a story about becoming who you are even when the world around you seems to be falling apart. Even during a revolution- specially then- we need to remind ourselves the power of laughter." - Renée Lavalle (Playwright and Director).
